Gameplay Overview

An Age of Man will take place on a World Map of 96 Million pixels, which is divided into a number of provinces, used to define areas of development and links to local maps. The provinces are further cut up into land units, each of which will be able to house a fluctuation of populations and resources. Populations, themselves, play an important role in An Age of Man, many mechanics are tied to them.

Additionally, characters will have their own personalities, based on the Five Factor model, and will gain one of six traits in the five different sectors of personality, Openness, Planning, Sociability, Agreeability, and Worry. They will be driven by these personalities. Open characters will be more trusting while closed characters will be more guarded. Planners won’t make a move without going over it while reckless characters will rush headlong into situations without a second’s thought.  Extroverts will try to be everyone’s friend while introverts will be isolated. Agreeable characters will be more gullible while their opposites will stubbornly refuse any advice while carefree characters are opposed by pessimists.

Populations will develop technological advancements within the country much more naturally, based on their activities rather than a selection from a tech tree. Farmers will improve gathering tech, seamen will refine shipping, courtiers will discover more efficiently, and so on. From the population countries will thus grow, shrink, and morph, forming niches in technology or collapsing due to unfulfilled needs. A coastal country will become a strong naval force but suffer from stymied land development, or warmongering nations may be unparalleled in combat but fall victim to political strife as their populace chaff under old laws.
